Downtown

In downtown Oshawa there's always something fun and exciting happening! From fabulous unique shops to the finest dining experiences, and from family-oriented activities to various special events, there are well over 150 different businesses and services located here in the heart of the downtown region. Why go to the trouble of living in Toronto condos when the excitement of downtown living is right here in Oshawa?

There is always plenty of parking to be found throughout the downtown, from curbside parking to the many covered and well lit parkades. Many businesses offer parking tokens with your purchase, and each token can be used for one half-hour of free parking. If you are visiting the downtown area on the weekend, parking is always free, unlike the fees charged by a realtor for a house for sale in Mississauga or family lawyer! This savings will allow you to have one more round at the pub, or some extra money in your pocket to buy the kids an extra scoop at the ice cream parlour!

There are many exciting annual events taking place in this region each year. The Original Downtown Sidewalk Sale occurs each summer in July, and this is where you will find the best deals on everything. Every member of the family eagerly anticipates the arrival of this annual event. Oshawa's sidewalk sale features not only great bargains, but also fun activities for the kids, loads of great food and live music.

The Jazz and Blues Festival occurs each August. This outdoor festival is put on by The Downtown Action Committee and Eclipse Concerts. This is a great way to celebrate summer in the city. The event features fabulous live showcases across the downtown area in various venues. To top off the festival, a well-known touring act is always featured as the main attraction in the large Bandshell at the spacious Memorial Park, a hot spot for MLS Durham region.

Autofest Kick-Off is another annual event that you will not want to miss in downtown Oshawa. Both of the main streets, King and Simcoe, are closed to local traffic for the event, which showcases 200 classic vehicles that are parked and displayed for all to enjoy. The Autofest Kick-Off begins the weekend of events with a Friday night downtown cruise-in and a great live concert featuring beloved music of the 50's and 60's to set the mood, and many visitors leave their Oakville homes to attend this exciting event. Autofest continues throughout the weekend, and on Saturday there is a popular Soapbox Derby that anyone can participate in. This weekend is jam packed with fun events for the whole family, and auto enthusiasts are always welcome!

The Regent Theatre Renewal Project has been underway for just a short while, but local residents have already seen its impact. The aim of the project is to restore the Regent Theatre to serve as a 700-seat, all season multi-purpose community performance space for audiences throughout the entire Durham Region. This historical theatre is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and it will offer over 200 events each year, including: live performances by international, national and local artists, well-known touring theatrical productions, school concerts and children's programs, fundraisers for home sale Whitby along with other great charities and so much more! The revival and renewal of the theatre will not only bring jobs and tourism to the area, it will help to restore the entire downtown and bring even more fun things to this vibrant area.

There are so many fun events and activities to be found in downtown Oshawa; so come on down to experience the great times and fabulous atmosphere. Your first trip will certainly not be your last!
